Easter is more than a celebration—it’s a divine invitation to begin again. That was the message from Very Reverend Father Hilary Pogbeyir, Parish Priest of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Tamale, as he led the faithful in a deeply reflective Easter Sunday Mass.
Addressing a congregation gathered to mark the most sacred day in the Christian calendar, Father Pogbeyir urged Catholics to let the resurrection of Jesus Christ be a catalyst for spiritual renewal and deeper commitment to Christ and His Church.
“Easter is not only a reminder of Christ’s resurrection but a personal call for each of us to rise — from doubt to faith, from spiritual fatigue to fervour,” he said.
Describing the Easter Mass as the culmination of the Lenten journey, Father Pogbeyir emphasized that the season wasn’t merely about rituals but about profound transformation.
“It is the central celebration of our faith,” he said, “where we remember that Jesus conquered sin and death — and because of that, we can face life with renewed courage and hope.”
He reminded worshippers that the resurrection symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, urging them to hold on to that truth in times of despair or uncertainty.
At the heart of his message was the promise of eternal life — the assurance that death does not have the final word.
Father Pogbeyir called on Christians to celebrate Easter not only with joy but with a sense of spiritual responsibility.
“This feast is a reminder that no matter how dark life becomes, God’s love is stronger. We are an Easter people — and hallelujah is our song.”
Highlighting the significance of the Eucharist during the Easter Mass, Father Pogbeyir explained that it is not merely symbolic but a real encounter with the risen Christ, meant to strengthen the believer’s faith and deepen their relationship with God.
He encouraged Catholics to move beyond church walls and allow the resurrection message to reflect in their daily lives — through acts of love, service, and forgiveness.
“Easter is not the end of the story — it is the beginning of a life lived with resurrected purpose.”
As the bells rang out and hymns filled the air, the Easter message in Tamale was clear: in a world of uncertainty, Easter offers believers a sacred opportunity to start anew — in faith, in hope, and in love.
