With 6,839 voters across 19 polling stations returning to the booths, the Electoral Commission (EC) is gearing up for the final phase of the long‑delayed Ablekuma North parliamentary election on July 11. Polling will run from 07:00 to 17:00, completing the full tally of 281 stations for December’s contest.
At a press briefing, Deputy Chair Dr. Bossman Asare underscored the EC’s independence and rejected claims of external interference in calling the rerun. Equally pressing, he addressed concerns over staff intimidation since the last round, appealing to the Election Security Taskforce and police for robust protection “before, during, and after” the exercise so officials can work without fear.
The 19 locations—ranging from God First International School to the Roman Catholic Church at Busia Junction—were selected due to unverified scanned results sheets, a point of contention since the NPP destroyed original pink slips. While the NDC initially sought reruns in 37 stations, and the NPP pushed to collate only three outstanding results, the High Court dismissed the NPP’s injunction on July 9.
Despite her party’s boycott, NPP candidate Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie confirmed she will appear on the ballot, joining NDC challenger Ewurabena Aubynn in a vote that promises to finally restore representation to a constituency left in limbo for over seven months.
