Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have renewed pressure on President John Dramani Mahama to remove Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante, warning that their concerns over her alleged misconduct and failure to implement Assembly decisions remain unresolved more than two months after their initial protest.
The Assembly Members, at a press conference on Friday, October 16, 2026, gave the President another one-week deadline to act, accusing the MCE of undermining their authority, mishandling municipal affairs and failing to address critical sanitation challenges.
Their latest demand follows an earlier press conference on July 24, 2026, when they called for Ms Asante’s resignation or replacement over concerns about her handling of municipal administration.
Spokesperson for the group, George Kuntu Blankson, who represents the Kwamo Electoral Area, said the absence of any action since their initial appeal had deepened their frustration and raised questions about the government’s response to their grievances.
“More than two months after our press conference, no action has been taken. This means that both the MCE and the president do not take the resolution of the assembly members seriously,” Mr Blankson said.
The Assembly Members cited several allegations against the MCE, including claims that she colluded with the Municipal Head of Works to issue a fraudulent building permit receipt and used her official vehicle to facilitate alleged extortion by the Municipal Engineer.
They also accused her of attempting to transfer the Municipal Finance Officer without adequately addressing mounting sanitation problems in the municipality.
Beyond the allegations of misconduct, the group expressed concern over what it described as the MCE’s failure to respect and implement decisions taken by the Assembly, particularly on matters involving the enforcement of a court order and the protection of environmentally sensitive areas.
One of the disputes concerns a High Court order for the demolition of a building allegedly encroaching on a road at Achiakrom. The Assembly Members questioned the handling of the matter and the perceived lack of action by the municipal administration.
They also raised concerns about the failure to remove laterite dumped on a wetland along the River Baffoe on the Ejisuman Senior High School road, warning that the situation required urgent attention.
According to the group, the unresolved issues have weakened the Assembly’s authority and further damaged its working relationship with the MCE.
The Assembly Members maintained that their demand was not new, stressing that they had already given the President an opportunity to address their concerns following their July protest.
They warned that continued inaction would deepen tensions within the municipal administration and undermine the effective functioning of the Assembly.
The latest ultimatum places renewed responsibility on President Mahama to consider the allegations and determine the next course of action regarding Ms Asante’s continued leadership of the municipality.
However, the allegations made by the Assembly Members have not been independently established in the information available, and no response from the MCE was included in their account.
