Former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta has taken legal action against two police officers—DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah, also known as Sir Mensah—over what he describes as an unlawful invasion of his privacy and trespassing on his property.
The lawsuit stems from an alleged raid on Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence on February 11, 2025, carried out by a group of individuals, some of whom were reportedly dressed in military and police uniforms. At the time of the incident, Ofori-Atta was out of the country, while his wife and other family members were present.
Eyewitnesses and security footage suggest that around 12 individuals participated in the operation, with five dressed in military attire, one in a police uniform, and the rest in civilian clothing. The motive for the raid remains unclear, and it is unknown whether any belongings were taken.
Speculation initially pointed to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as the orchestrator of the raid. However, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng firmly denied any involvement during a press conference on February 12, stating that his office had not sanctioned or conducted the operation.
A writ of summons obtained by Citi News on March 12 indicates that Ofori-Atta is seeking multiple legal remedies, including a declaration that the defendants’ actions were unlawful, compensation for trespass and violation of privacy, and a perpetual injunction to prevent further intrusions on his property. He is also demanding aggravated damages and legal costs.
The defendants have been ordered to respond to the lawsuit within eight days of being served.
