Policy analyst and IMANI Africa president, Franklin Cudjoe, has called out former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urging him to adopt a more courageous and proactive approach to leadership.
Reacting to Bawumia’s recent admissions during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) thank you tour, Cudjoe criticized what he sees as a troubling pattern — silence during critical moments, only to offer “confessions” after the damage is done.
“Next time, please man up and speak up. That’s leadership, not coming to ‘confess’ after the glaring facts that caused so many a livelihood and death,” Cudjoe wrote in a Facebook post.
His sharp rebuke follows comments made by Bawumia, who candidly outlined reasons behind the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat — including the government’s refusal to reshuffle underperforming ministers, the controversial E-levy, the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), and the arrogance of power that many Ghanaians perceived.
Bawumia admitted that under the NPP’s watch, the standard of living for ordinary citizens deteriorated significantly, a stark departure from the party’s founding ideals.
But for Franklin Cudjoe, admissions after-the-fact are not enough. He believes that genuine leadership demands speaking truth to power while still in office, especially when decisions threaten the welfare of the people.
The message was clear: if Bawumia aspires to lead in the future, silence in the face of wrong must not be an option.
