The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has temporarily suspended its ongoing industrial action, directing members to return to work from Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The decision is intended to create an opportunity for further negotiations between the Association and key government stakeholders over issues that led to the strike.
In a notice to members, the National Executive Committee (NEC) said the suspension would remain in effect until after a scheduled meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on Tuesday, August 25.
GAUA said the planned engagement would bring together the Association, the FWSC, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Minister for Education to discuss the outstanding concerns.
The Association has consequently directed its members to resume their normal duties while negotiations continue.
The NEC expressed appreciation to members for their solidarity and cooperation throughout the industrial action and urged them to remain committed to the negotiation process.
Members have also been asked to await further directives following the August 25 meeting, which is expected to determine the Association’s next course of action.
The temporary suspension therefore provides a window for government and university administrators to engage further and seek a resolution to the issues underlying the industrial dispute.
