The Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the official academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, outlining key reporting dates, term schedules and examination timelines for both single-track and transitional systems.
In a statement issued on June 1, the GES called on parents, students, teachers and school administrators to familiarise themselves with the schedule and make adequate preparations for the new academic year.
The Service confirmed that Form One and Form Two students under the single-track system will commence the first semester on September 18, 2026, running until January 29, 2027. The students will then break for vacation and resume for the second semester from March 30 to July 30, 2027.
Form Three students in single-track schools will also begin on September 18, 2026, but will complete their first semester earlier on December 18, 2026. After a short break, they will return on February 1, 2027, and conclude the academic year on June 18, 2027.
For transitional schools, the calendar introduces a blended learning approach combining classroom and online instruction. Form One students will alternate between in-person learning from September 18 to November 16, 2026, and online sessions from November 16 to December 18, 2026, before resuming in February 2027.
Form Two students will begin in-person classes on November 16, 2026, followed by online learning and a second semester running from April 19 to August 27, 2027. Form Three students will follow a similar structure, completing their academic year on June 18, 2027.
GES has scheduled the Christmas break from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, and the Easter break from March 25 to March 30, 2027.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to run from April 6 to June 18, 2027, with a mid-semester break for Form Two students set for June 17 to June 20, 2027.
The Service said the calendar is designed to ensure smooth academic planning while maintaining consistency across all senior high school systems nationwide.
