The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong caution to school heads and education authorities across the country, warning that it will strictly monitor the use of newly disbursed funds meant to support this year’s WASSCE practical examinations.
The warning came alongside the announcement that government has released funds to all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) to fully finance the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) practicals.
A press statement signed by the Head of Public Relations at GES, Mr. Daniel Fenyi, emphasized that the funds are to be used strictly for procuring essential materials and logistics for science, technical, and vocational practical examinations set to commence in the coming weeks.
“Authorities must ensure the due application of the funds to guarantee efficiency and accountability,” the GES stressed, noting that any misuse or diversion of the funds would not be tolerated.
The Service made clear that regional and district education offices, along with school heads, will be held accountable for the judicious use of the funds, and that monitoring teams would be deployed to ensure full compliance.
Beyond the caution, the GES said the government’s move reaffirms its commitment to easing the financial burden on parents and guardians, allowing candidates to focus on preparations without distractions from logistical concerns.
“This is a critical period in the academic journey of the candidates. Ensuring that they are adequately supported with the right tools and materials is a top priority,” the statement added.
The move is expected to improve the overall quality and fairness of the examination process across all schools, particularly in under-resourced communities.
