Ghana is making a bold case for itself as West Africa’s benchmark for sustainable and responsible mining, attracting investor attention at the ongoing West Africa Mining and Power Expo (WAMPEX) 2025 in Accra.
At the summit, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, reaffirmed Ghana’s leadership role in environmentally conscious and community-driven resource development. He challenged neighboring countries to follow Ghana’s model, which combines robust investment inflows with tangible community benefits.
“Ghana is not just a mining destination—we are proof that responsible investment and transformative development can go hand in hand,” he stated, highlighting the country’s impressive $1.2 billion in mining-related foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2024.
The Minister outlined four strategic pillars that define Ghana’s approach: investor confidence, community impact, environmental stewardship, and transparent governance. He added that the Mineral Development Fund is now supporting over 100 communities, signaling a shift from corporate charity to true value-sharing.
Ghana’s stability, skilled workforce, and open-door policy for responsible investors make it an attractive hub for future partnerships, Buah said.
Industry leaders including Michael Edem Akafia and Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah of the Ghana Chamber of Mines echoed the call for sustainability-driven investment, with this year’s theme—“The Mining and Power Hub: Driving Sustainable Investment Opportunities in West Africa”—guiding discussions.
WAMPEX 2025 continues to serve as the premier platform for exploring investment opportunities, innovation, and resilience in West Africa’s mining and energy sectors.
