Ghanaians living in the United States turned out in numbers on Sunday afternoon to welcome President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama as they arrived in New York for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings.
The President’s arrival was marked by cheers from sections of the Ghanaian diaspora, who expressed appreciation for reforms back home, particularly policies they say are beginning to show positive effects on the economy.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa led the official delegation that received the President, alongside other government officials including Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff for Finance and Administration, Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Victor Smith, and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
For many in the diaspora, the President’s participation in the global forum is an opportunity to showcase Ghana’s development agenda and strengthen its voice on international issues.
