Parliament has formally acknowledged the election of Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), a senior continental position that grants her ministerial-level privileges and expanded diplomatic responsibilities across Africa.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin announced the development on Tuesday after receiving official communication dated May 1, 2026, from PAP President Fateh Boutbig confirming her election.
The correspondence extended formal congratulations to the Government and people of Ghana and detailed the scope of the office, noting that the PAP Vice President enjoys ministerial status under African Union protocols in both South Africa, where the institution is hosted, and across the continent.
According to the communication, the position comes with official protocol arrangements, including security protection, an official vehicle, office space, administrative staff and financial support to facilitate her continental duties.
Following the announcement, Speaker Bagbin directed the Clerk to Parliament to engage the PAP Secretariat to ensure all entitlements and logistical arrangements are fully provided to support her new role.
He also publicly congratulated Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings on behalf of the House, prompting applause from Members of Parliament.
Beyond her election, Ghana recorded strong representation in the Pan-African Parliament, securing five strategic positions in the latest leadership arrangements.
These include the election of First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor to the Rules Committee, while Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh was appointed Chair of the Health Committee.
Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor joined the Finance Committee, and Collins Dauda secured a place on the Trade Committee.
Speaker Bagbin described the outcome as evidence of Ghana’s growing influence within continental legislative affairs, praising the delegation for its strong performance and urging other members to emulate their example.
The development further strengthens Ghana’s visibility within the Pan-African Parliament, the legislative organ of the African Union tasked with promoting integration, governance and democratic accountability across Africa.
