Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has hit back at allegations made by Member of Parliament Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor regarding his security detail during his tenure, calling them baseless and defamatory.
In a letter addressed to the MP, Dame refuted claims made during an appearance on TV3’s *The Key Points*, where Dafeamekpor alleged that the former AG moved around with a convoy of fifteen military officers in bulletproof vehicles.
“You falsely claimed that I moved around with fifteen military officers in bulletproof vehicles. That is a complete lie,” Dame wrote, dismissing the assertion as an attempt to mislead the public and damage his reputation.
He clarified that, throughout his eight years in office, he was assigned only one personal bodyguard and never had a convoy or military escort.
“At no point did I have a convoy or military escort. The only security assigned to me was one bodyguard, and that arrangement remained unchanged from my time as Deputy Attorney-General to my last day in office,” Dame stated.
Addressing further accusations of extravagance, Dame insisted that he lived in his private residence, never requested government accommodation, and rarely used state vehicles.
“I lived in my private residence, never requested government accommodation, and never used state vehicles in Accra. The only time I used a government car was for rare travels outside Accra,” he asserted.
Dame has demanded an immediate public retraction of the claims on the same TV3 platform, warning that failure to do so will result in legal action.
“If you persist in peddling these falsehoods, I will take legal steps to seek punitive damages for defamation,” he cautioned.
The letter, which was copied to the Speaker of Parliament, parliamentary leadership, TV3, and other major media houses, underscores the seriousness of the matter and Dame’s intent to protect his reputation.
