Gordon Asare-Bediako has withdrawn from the contest for the position of National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), throwing his support behind fellow contender Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
In a statement, Mr Asare-Bediako said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends and stakeholders within the party, as well as prayerful reflection on what he described as the best interest of the NPP at a defining moment.
He said his decision to contest the position was motivated by a genuine desire to help rebuild the party’s communications machinery and reposition it for victory.
However, he said he had become convinced that the party’s interests would be better served by “unity of purpose” rather than a division of energies.
“I have decided to withdraw my candidature for the position of National Communications Director,” he stated.
Mr Asare-Bediako subsequently endorsed Dennis Miracles Aboagye, describing him as a seasoned party communicator with the experience and qualities required to lead the NPP’s communications front.
He cited Mr Aboagye’s previous role as Spokesperson and Communications Director for the 2024 Bawumia Presidential Campaign, as well as his years of frontline advocacy for the party.
According to him, Mr Aboagye has demonstrated “courage, discipline, strategic depth, and command of message” and is “battle-tested, articulate, and respected” within the party.
Mr Asare-Bediako expressed confidence that Mr Aboagye’s leadership would make the NPP’s communications more effective.
He also appealed to delegates who had supported his candidature to redirect their support towards Mr Aboagye.
“Our mission is bigger than any individual ambition: it is the retrieval of power for the New Patriotic Party and the restoration of hope for the good people of Ghana,” he said.
Mr Asare-Bediako further pledged to remain a loyal servant of the NPP and continue contributing to the party in whatever capacity he may be called upon to serve.
He concluded by wishing the NPP well and calling for God’s blessings on the party and Ghana.
