The government has moved to clarify President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks on GH¢150 million after a video of the President triggered debate and claims on social media.
Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the comments had been taken out of context and deliberately presented in a manner intended to create a misleading impression.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the viral video had been manipulated by what he described as “misguided elements” for partisan purposes.
He explained that the President’s reference to the release of GH¢150 million was specifically connected to funding for post-flood mitigation works.
According to him, President Mahama made the comment during a discussion with the National Security Coordinator on efforts to address the impact of recent flooding.
“The President clearly speaks of the ‘release’ of GH¢150 million, which was in direct reference to funds for post-flood mitigation works,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu said.
He maintained that there was no other meaning to the President’s remarks and accused critics of deliberately distorting the video to advance what he described as “narrow partisan ends.”
The government communications minister consequently urged the public to disregard the claims circulating alongside the video, describing them as misleading.
“Disregard the mischievous lies!” he added.
