Mr. Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has outlined a robust plan to accelerate economic growth and community empowerment through the implementation of 91 targeted projects and programmes in the 2025 fiscal year.
Delivering his first sessional address at the second session of the ninth Assembly, Mr. Kumi emphasized that the projects form part of a broader strategy to “Reset for Development of Hohoe,” aligning closely with President Nana Akufo-Addo’s flagship “Reset Ghana Agenda.”
He revealed that 67 of these initiatives—approximately 74 percent—are already underway, with key focus areas including urban infrastructure, agricultural development, health services, and water and sanitation improvements.
Highlighting the Assembly’s budget constraints, Mr. Kumi noted that although GH¢32.2 million was budgeted for Urban Development Grant (UDG) phases 3, 4, and 5 projects, only GH¢300,000 (3 percent) had been disbursed as of April 30, 2025. This shortfall underscores the need for effective resource mobilization.
“I have prioritized revenue generation to address the Assembly’s backlog of debts and low internally generated funds. I urge all Assembly members to actively participate in boosting revenue to sustain our development agenda,” he stated.
Recognizing agriculture as a critical economic driver for the Municipality, Mr. Kumi announced upcoming support for farmers, including the distribution of 891 bags of seed rice and liquid organic fertilizer, in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
On health, he acknowledged challenges in service delivery due to resource shortages and pledged that the Assembly would soon undertake renovations and retooling of health centres.
Water and sanitation remain key priorities, with several boreholes drilled and rehabilitated to improve community access to clean water. The Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit has inspected over 1,100 homes, addressing nuisances in 786 houses.
Notable infrastructure projects in progress include the 73 percent-completed construction of a 32-unit lockable store at Hohoe Central Market, a 63 percent-completed 1.0 km bitumen urban road with U-drains, and a 61 percent-completed 900-meter reinforced concrete storm drain system with pedestrian bridges and guardrails.
Mr. Kumi’s address signals a renewed commitment to practical development interventions designed to improve the quality of life in Hohoe while fulfilling the wider national goal of resetting Ghana’s economic and social progress.
