Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, is leading the race for National Chairman, while incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover are ahead in their respective contests, according to a new Global InfoAnalytics survey.
The poll, released on August 20, 2026, however, points to significant uncertainty across all three races, with large proportions of NPP voters yet to decide on their preferred candidates.
In the National Chairman contest, John Boadu leads with 27 per cent support, followed by former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko with 15 per cent and former National Chairman Paul Afoko with 10 per cent.
The biggest bloc, however, comprises voters who have not chosen a candidate, with 47 per cent indicating that they have no opinion.
The findings suggest that the eventual outcome could depend heavily on how the large undecided group responds as the party’s internal elections draw closer.
### Boadu records strongest favourability
Beyond voter preference, John Boadu also records the strongest favourability rating among the three leading contenders.
He has a 61 per cent favourable rating against 12 per cent unfavourable, giving him a net favourability score of 49 per cent.
Boakye Agyarko records 50 per cent favourable and 17 per cent unfavourable, translating into a net rating of 34 per cent.
Paul Afoko also records 50 per cent favourable, against 18 per cent unfavourable, giving him a net rating of 32 per cent.
Boadu’s lead extends to a number of regions, including Bono East, where he records 43 per cent; Upper East, 41 per cent; Greater Accra and North East, 38 per cent each; Northern, 29 per cent; and Central, 27 per cent.
Agyarko remains competitive in Bono East with 23 per cent, Greater Accra with 22 per cent and Central with 21 per cent, while Afoko’s strongest showing comes from Savannah, at 22 per cent, followed by North East at 19 per cent.
The level of uncertainty is particularly high in some regions. In Ashanti, 71 per cent of respondents expressed no preference, while the figure stood at 63 per cent in both Oti and Upper West, 60 per cent in Western North and 56 per cent in Volta.
### Kodua opens commanding lead
The General Secretary race currently appears less competitive, with incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong holding a substantial lead over the other potential contenders.
Kodua attracts 36 per cent support, compared with 10 per cent for Eugene Antwi, five per cent for Sylvester Tetteh and three per cent for Charles Dwamena.
Despite his lead, 46 per cent of respondents remain undecided.
Kodua’s strongest regional showing is in the Central Region, where he records 60 per cent, followed by Greater Accra at 54 per cent and Bono East at 44 per cent.
He also records 43 per cent in Upper East, 40 per cent in Northern and 39 per cent each in Ahafo and North East.
Eugene Antwi’s strongest performance is in Bono East, where he records 30 per cent, followed by Volta at 18 per cent and Greater Accra at 14 per cent.
### Glover leads National Organiser race
The National Organiser contest is also being led by Titus Glover, although the race remains open because half of NPP voters surveyed have yet to indicate a preference.
Glover records 23 per cent support, followed by Salam Mustapha with 14 per cent, Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim with eight per cent and Kwame A. Prempeh with five per cent.
Titus Glover’s strongest support comes from Northern Region at 35 per cent, while he records 28 per cent in Volta and 27 per cent each in Ahafo and Greater Accra.
Salam Mustapha leads in Oti with 28 per cent, Upper West with 25 per cent and Upper East with 24 per cent.
Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim performs strongest in Bono, where he records 28 per cent, followed by North East at 23 per cent and Upper West at 21 per cent.
Kwame A. Prempeh’s strongest regional showing is in Bono East, at 21 per cent.
### Chairmanship race shows cross-camp support
The survey also suggests that preferences for National Chairman could influence choices in the other executive contests.
Among respondents who prefer John Boadu as National Chairman, 63 per cent also support Justin Kodua Frimpong for General Secretary.
Kodua receives 53 per cent support among those backing Boakye Agyarko and 49 per cent among Paul Afoko’s supporters.
In the National Organiser contest, Titus Glover attracts 43 per cent among Agyarko supporters, 36 per cent among Boadu supporters and 34 per cent among Afoko supporters.
The figures indicate that the leading candidates in the General Secretary and National Organiser contests are drawing support across the different camps in the chairmanship race.
### Undecided voters remain key
The large undecided vote is emerging as the defining feature of the NPP’s national executive contests.
While Boadu, Kodua and Glover currently lead their respective races, 47 per cent remain undecided in the chairmanship contest, compared with 46 per cent in the General Secretary race and 50 per cent in the National Organiser contest.
The results therefore leave considerable room for movement as campaigning intensifies and candidates seek to consolidate support.
The Global InfoAnalytics survey was conducted through telephone interviews between August 10 and 12, 2026, involving 2,557 respondents across all 16 regions.
The respondents were selected using probability random sampling with regional quota limits, using the 2024 Electoral Commission register as the sample frame.
The poll reports a 99 per cent confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.56 percentage points.
