Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the national team as they prepare for what he describes as a difficult but potentially historic campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew made the appeal at a send-off event for the squad ahead of their relocation to Rhode Island, where Ghana will be based throughout the tournament.
The Black Stars, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, are seeking to improve on previous outings that saw them exit at the group stage in their last three tournaments. Despite the challenge, the captain expressed confidence that the team can change that narrative.
“We have three massive games for us and we want to make you guys proud, we want to make Ghana proud,” he said.
He acknowledged the difficulty ahead but stressed that belief and national support would be crucial to the team’s performance.
“Obviously, it’s not going to be easy but with your prayers and support, hopefully we will be successful. Keep on praying for us because we are here to make history,” Ayew added.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia in matches scheduled for June 17, 23 and 27 respectively.
The team says it is focused on preparation and unity as it looks to deliver a stronger showing on the global stage.
