As the Kadjebi District Assembly prepares to vote on the nomination of Dr. Sam Suraj Issaka for District Chief Executive (DCE), the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Mr. Tassah Tapha Tassah, has called for a united front in support of the nominee—putting development before political lines.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency ahead of the confirmation vote scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, Mr. Tassah emphasized that approval of Dr. Suraj should be viewed as an opportunity to unlock development for the district, rather than a partisan issue.
“Let’s set aside political differences and focus on the progress of Kadjebi,” he stated. “What matters most is the well-being of our people and the development we all desire. We must not allow narrow interests to derail that.”
The Kadjebi District Assembly is made up of 36 elected members and 16 government appointees, whose support will determine the confirmation of Dr. Suraj—an experienced public servant with a background in both science and local governance.
Dr. Suraj, a Research Scientist with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, also serves as the Oti Regional Director of Research and Innovation for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He previously served two terms as Assemblyman for the Mempeasem Electoral Area, earning respect across political divides for his community-based approach.
Mr. Tassah’s public support for a nominee affiliated with a rival political party highlights a rare show of non-partisan collaboration, reflecting a shared desire for effective leadership at the local level.
Stakeholders in Kadjebi are hopeful that this spirit of unity will prevail at the confirmation hearing, allowing the district to move forward with purposeful development under new leadership.
