The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, has outlined a range of interventions in education, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure, as part of efforts to improve living conditions and expand opportunities for residents of the constituency.
Speaking at his 50th Quarterly Accountability Series at Dekpor on Sunday, Mr Agbana said the initiatives formed part of his commitment to regularly account to constituents on his stewardship and update them on development programmes in the area.
He said more than 800 tertiary students in Ketu North were currently benefiting from his scholarship programme, while 1,200 teachers had, for the first time, received support to participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops.
According to him, the initiative was aimed at strengthening teaching capacity and improving learning outcomes across the constituency.
Mr Agbana also highlighted logistical support provided to second-cycle institutions, saying Weta Senior High Technical and Afife Senior High Technical had each received 400 desks, while Wovenu Senior High Technical and Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School had each received 1,000 desks.
An additional 1,000 desks, he said, had also been secured to meet future needs.
On agriculture, the MP said more than 5,000 bags of fertiliser had been distributed to farmers, alongside 4,000 coconut seedlings, with farmers also benefiting from the government’s Nkoko Nkitinki programme.
He said the interventions were intended to support farmers to increase production and improve their livelihoods.
In healthcare, Mr Agbana said a health kiosk had been established at Dzodze in collaboration with the Ketu North Municipal Assembly under the government’s Free Primary Health Care initiative.
He added that plans were advanced to establish another health facility at Weta Junction to improve access to primary healthcare services in the Weta Zone.
The MP said the Assembly had also facilitated the construction of CHPS compounds and nurses’ quarters at Adzoatsi and Kutsinu, while similar facilities were planned for Adrume and Adelakoekope.
Road infrastructure also featured prominently in the MP’s update, with Mr Agbana acknowledging the poor condition of some roads across the constituency.
He, however, expressed optimism that ongoing government interventions would help address the challenge.
He said the Dzodze-Penyi road was among projects being implemented under the government’s Big Push programme, with some sections nearing completion.
Mr Agbana further disclosed that the government, with support from the World Bank, was preparing to construct roads connecting farming communities to major markets.
The roads include the Ehi-Agbozume, Afife-Tsiyinu and Afife Clinic-Aborlove-Norlorfi routes, while the next phase is expected to cover the Ehi-Dzodze, Dekpor-Devego and Tadzewu roads.
He said contractors had already inspected some of the roads and submitted bills of quantities and cost estimates, with construction expected to begin after the procurement processes were completed.
In the interim, he said, the Assembly would collaborate with his office to reshape some of the roads to improve accessibility.
Meanwhile, the Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive, Reverend Martin Amenaki, outlined additional interventions planned for the municipality over the next three months.
He said the Assembly, in collaboration with the MP, would undertake road reshaping across various communities throughout September.
The MCE also disclosed that the Assembly had commenced the drilling of boreholes, with two already completed, and was targeting 10 boreholes within the next three months.
Where necessary, the boreholes would be mechanised before being handed over to beneficiary communities.
Rev Amenaki further announced plans to commence procurement for a CHPS compound and either a kindergarten or six-unit classroom block within the municipality.
The accountability programme brought together residents of Dekpor and surrounding communities, NDC constituency executives, government officials and other stakeholders from Ketu North and the Volta Region.
