Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has officially resigned from his role as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, citing the growing demands of his new and existing responsibilities within African football governance.
Okraku, who recently assumed the position of 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stated that the increasing workload from his CAF role and ongoing commitments as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) make it impossible to fully devote himself to all three leadership positions.
In a statement announcing his resignation, Okraku expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve WAFU Zone B and acknowledged the significant progress made under his leadership. He emphasized the need for continuity and peace within the Zone, pledging a smooth handover to a successor who will build on the achievements of his tenure.
“Serving as your President has been an honour, but it is now time to allow new leadership to continue the important work we’ve started,” he noted, while assuring stakeholders of his continued support for the region.
Elected for a second term in 2022, Okraku’s departure from WAFU Zone B marks a significant reshuffling within West African football leadership as he takes on broader responsibilities within CAF.
A transition process to install a new WAFU Zone B President is expected to begin in the coming days.
