Ace broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi has apologised to Minority Leader and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin following a controversy involving comments made about the lawmaker on Peace FM’s morning programme, Kokrokoo.
The apology comes after Afenyo-Markin initiated legal action against several individuals and media organisations over alleged defamatory statements made during the heated public dispute surrounding the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP).
Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of Kokrokoo, Sefa Kayi acknowledged Afenyo-Markin’s concerns and expressed regret over comments aired on his platform.
“I believe he (Afenyo) has a very good point, and so, Afenyo, I apologise to you for that…let’s let bygones be bygones,” he said.
The development follows a series of exchanges between Afenyo-Markin and Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi over the Bank of Ghana’s reported US$1.7 billion loss linked to the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme in 2025.
The dispute intensified after Gyamfi described the Minority Leader as an “extortionist” in response to his calls for accountability over the programme.
NDC communicator Eric Adjei subsequently appeared on Kokrokoo, where he defended Gyamfi and made further comments about Afenyo-Markin.
According to the Minority Leader, he was particularly disappointed that such claims were allowed to be made on the platform.
Afenyo-Markin subsequently announced that he had commenced legal proceedings against Sammy Gyamfi, Eric Adjei, Multimedia Group Limited and Peace FM.
He disclosed the lawsuits when Parliament reconvened on Monday, August 24, 2026.
He said writs had been filed at the Accra High Court and the Achimota Circuit Court in connection with the matter.
The first case, Suit Number GT/1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court.
The second, Suit Number GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v Eric Adjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.
Sefa Kayi’s apology now marks a conciliatory development amid the broader legal dispute, although the claims at the centre of the lawsuits remain matters before the courts.
