Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has firmly rejected any notion of a third-term presidency for former President John Dramani Mahama, warning that any attempts to pursue such a path would face significant opposition from across Ghana’s political spectrum.
Speaking during an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Pratt was resolute in his opposition, declaring, “Let nobody even dream—dream—about a third term for President Mahama. None of us is going to accept that. It doesn’t make sense.”
He went on to stress that any efforts in this direction would likely ignite serious political unrest, with massive resistance expected from all political factions.
Pratt’s comments came in response to speculation allegedly being spread by some within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), though he was quick to clarify that there was no concrete evidence to suggest that Mahama was planning to seek a third term.
“That’s not to say the NPP’s speculation has any grounds—it has no grounds whatsoever.
There’s no indication that President Mahama is going for a third term,” Pratt remarked. Nevertheless, he warned that even the suggestion of such a move should be firmly discouraged.
The seasoned journalist further cautioned that any attempts to entertain a third-term bid would be met with resolute opposition from the Ghanaian public, emphasizing that such a notion should not even be entertained. “If anyone is thinking about it, they should be very sure that Ghanaians will not tolerate it,” he said.
In addition to his remarks on the third-term speculation, Pratt also addressed President Mahama’s recent directive to appointees regarding asset declarations. He highlighted the significance of the deadline, remarking, “Everybody is watching.
Either they all comply or the president takes punitive action. Let’s see what the presidency will do by close of day.” His comments underscored the ongoing scrutiny surrounding government compliance and the importance of accountability.
