A private legal practitioner, Godlove Adjei Tenkorang, has raised concerns over what he describes as a shift in the government’s stance on LGBTQ+ matters, questioning the consistency between campaign messaging and current governance.
Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, he alleged that John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had previously taken strong positions on the issue while in opposition but are now treating it as a lower priority.
According to him, the current approach appears similar to that of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who had emphasised due process and legal clarity—an approach the NDC had earlier criticised.
Mr. Tenkorang argued that this perceived shift raises broader questions about political consistency and accountability, particularly on issues that featured prominently in public discourse ahead of the 2024 elections.
He further claimed that the matter influenced voter sentiment during the elections and suggested that some government officials have since avoided openly addressing it.
The comments add to ongoing public debate about policy priorities and the role of political messaging in governance.
