The Local Government Service Council has endorsed plans by the Chartered Institute of Local Governance and Development (CILGD) to collaborate with the Local Government Service on professional training and institutional capacity development.
The Council expressed its support after CILGD presented its proposal at the Fifth Meeting of the Sixth Local Government Service Council on September 24, 2026.
The proposed collaboration covers training, professional membership, research and consultancy, with the aim of strengthening the professional development of staff across the Local Government Service.
Following the presentation, the Council provided guidance on the next steps and supported CILGD and the Local Government Service to proceed with the necessary implementation arrangements.
The Council, however, advised CILGD to engage the Public Services Commission on the recognition of its professional certificates for promotion within the Local Government Service.
It said any recognition of CILGD certificates for promotion would depend on the outcome of that engagement and the applicable approval processes.
Membership of CILGD is open to Local Government Service staff, members of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), GLOSAC members, public and civil servants, as well as other professionals interested in local governance, public administration and development.
The Institute said interested persons could visit its website for information on registration, membership categories and professional programmes.
