Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, has reiterated that the government will adhere to its pledge of maintaining a maximum of 60 ministers, addressing apprehensions raised by the Minority Caucus during Friday’s Parliamentary sitting.
Mr. Ayariga stressed that the administration remains committed to disciplined ministerial appointments, aligning with its stated objectives of efficiency, accountability, and prudent public expenditure. He accused the Minority of attempting to politicise the issue, warning that any breach of the ministerial ceiling would be unfairly portrayed as a failure.
The debate reflects broader public and civil society concerns in Ghana over the size of government, with calls for leaner governance structures to curb costs and enhance administrative effectiveness.
By reaffirming the cap, the Majority Leader signaled the government’s intent to maintain consistency with pre-election promises while balancing political and fiscal responsibilities.
