President John Dramani Mahama has paid glowing tribute to his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, describing him as a loyal, humble and dependable public servant whose contributions have shaped key aspects of governance.
Speaking at Mr. Debrah’s 60th birthday thanksgiving service held at the Pentecost International Worship Centre in Accra, the President said the occasion was a reflection not only of personal celebration but also of public service and legacy.
The event brought together top government officials, including Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, members of the clergy, family and well-wishers.
President Mahama recounted his long-standing relationship with Mr. Debrah, noting that his first impression of him during political engagements in the Eastern Region revealed a calm, efficient and respectful leader who earned influence through trust rather than authority.
He credited Mr. Debrah’s earlier work as Minister of Local Government for contributing to visible national improvements, including expanded street naming and property addressing systems across the country within a short period.
The President further explained that his decision to appoint Mr. Debrah as Chief of Staff was based on proven loyalty, competence and his ability to deliver results under pressure.
Describing him as generous and selfless, President Mahama said Mr. Debrah is known for his willingness to support others even at personal cost, a trait he said has defined his public service.
The President also noted the rarity of having both the President and Vice President attend the same public event, explaining that protocol normally discourages such joint appearances for security reasons. He said their presence was a deliberate gesture to honour Mr. Debrah’s contribution to national leadership.
He added light-hearted remarks welcoming him into the “Senior Citizens Club,” encouraging him to embrace a more reflective stage of life.
Earlier in the service, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, preached on the importance of maintaining a good name, stressing that integrity and character are more valuable than wealth.
He urged leaders and Christians to cultivate humility, diligence and love for others as a foundation for lasting legacy, and later prayed for Mr. Debrah’s continued health, wisdom and protection in service to the nation.
