President John Dramani Mahama will lead a high-level review of the Accra Reset initiative in New York this evening, Monday, September 21, as global leaders and development partners gather to assess its progress one year after its launch.
The meeting, being held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, is expected to provide an opportunity for participants to examine the initiative’s achievements and renew commitments towards its objectives.
According to a statement from the Presidency, President Mahama will launch a report prepared by a high-level panel established by the Accra Reset Presidential Council.
The report is expected to provide a basis for discussions on the progress of the initiative and the next phase of its implementation.
The meeting will bring together political leaders, health and development advocates, international organisations and representatives of partner countries and institutions.
Among those scheduled to speak are Kenyan President William Ruto, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla.
Representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Group of 77 (G77), the Commonwealth and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) are also expected to contribute to the discussions.
Delegates from China, France and the United Kingdom, as well as Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote, will also participate in the meeting.
The Presidency said the gathering formed part of efforts to sustain international attention and cooperation around the Accra Reset agenda.
The event will be held in New York and broadcast live from 8:00 p.m. Ghana time.
The high-level meeting comes as the Accra Reset initiative moves into its second year, with stakeholders expected to consider lessons from its first year and identify areas requiring renewed international commitment.
