Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, has slammed the Minority in Parliament for walking out moments before the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, accusing them of avoiding scrutiny over their past governance.
Addressing the House on Thursday, Mr. Ayariga said the Minority’s decision to exit the Chamber was a calculated move to evade exposure, as the budget review was set to highlight what he described as the “wastage and economic mess” left behind by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
“They ran away because they knew what was coming. This review would lay bare the economic mismanagement they handed to the NDC government. The walkout was not protest—it was escape,” Ayariga declared.
He commended Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for his resilience and leadership in navigating a fragile economy since taking office. According to him, the Finance Minister had implemented critical reforms and made tough decisions over the past six months that had already begun yielding results.
“These have not been easy times, but Dr. Forson has shown resolve. He has our full support to push forward with the policies and programmes required to rebuild the economy,” Ayariga assured.
He pledged Parliament’s cooperation in reviewing and passing budget proposals swiftly to empower the Finance Ministry in addressing the nation’s economic challenges.
The Majority Leader’s remarks reflect growing partisan tension in the House as the mid-year review rekindles debate over economic stewardship and recovery strategies.
