Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed strong disapproval of a recent raid on the private residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, allegedly conducted by operatives of the National Security.
During a visit to Dr. Addison’s home at Roman Ridge in Accra, the Effutu MP reportedly consoled the former governor and his family, who were left shaken by the incident. Afenyo-Markin vowed to demand answers from the government regarding the operation, which was reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.
The raid, which took place on Wednesday, March 19, involved about 20 armed men, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles. Upon arrival, the operatives disabled the CCTV system before demanding access to alleged “vaults” within the property. However, Dr. Addison reportedly denied having any such vaults or hidden cash at home.
Despite his response, the security personnel proceeded to conduct a search, allegedly ransacking the house. No vaults or large sums of money were found, and after the failed operation, the operatives took the CCTV monitor and control unit with them.
A close associate of the Addison family revealed that Dr. Addison, his wife, and their household remain deeply traumatized following the incident.
This marks the second time Richard Jakpa has allegedly led a raid on the home of a high-profile former appointee of the Akufo-Addo administration since President John Mahama took office on January 7, 2025. A similar operation was carried out at the Labone residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on February 10, 2025, involving over 15 armed men. That raid was captured on CCTV, with footage later made public.
Afenyo-Markin’s visit signals growing concern over such actions, as he pledges to seek accountability for what many see as a troubling pattern of security operations targeting former government officials.
