Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Deputy Minority Whip, has publicly commended Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament, highlighting his supportive leadership and mentorship qualities.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Shaib emphasized Afenyo-Markin’s dedication to nurturing younger lawmakers, noting that the Minority Leader provides ample space for growth and learning. “He’s a great mentor. He gives you the room to learn,” Shaib said, stressing that this approach is essential for effective leadership.
Addressing criticisms that paint Afenyo-Markin as arrogant, Shaib strongly rejected such claims, describing him as one of the least arrogant individuals he has encountered. “Sometimes he overdoes it, which I think is just his political style, but arrogance is definitely not a trait of his,” Shaib remarked.
Shaib also defended the NPP minority caucus, proudly referring to them as the “mighty minority,” a term used by the opposition to counteract negative labels such as “micro-minority” previously used against them.
The remarks come as the NPP minority caucus continues to consolidate its role in the 9th Parliament, working closely under the leadership of Afenyo-Markin.
