The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) is set to embark on a transformative journey under its newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Clara B. Arthur, who assumes office on September 1, 2025.
Mrs. Arthur arrives with extensive experience spanning financial services and technology sectors, having held key leadership roles at Fidelity Bank Ghana, Ecobank Group, and E Process International S.A., among others. Her proven expertise in IT and payment solutions positions her well to steer GhIPSS through a dynamic phase of growth and digital innovation.
The appointment, announced by the Board of GhIPSS, a subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana, signals a strategic commitment to enhancing Ghana’s interoperable payment infrastructure — a backbone of the country’s financial ecosystem.
Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana and GhIPSS Board Chairman, expressed optimism about the fresh strategic vision Mrs. Arthur will bring. “Her leadership is expected to accelerate GhIPSS’ role in driving seamless, secure, and inclusive payment solutions for Ghana,” he noted.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Arthur highlighted her enthusiasm to build on GhIPSS’ legacy while embracing emerging technologies. “This is an exciting time for digital payments in Ghana. Together with the talented GhIPSS team, we will innovate and expand access to cutting-edge payment services that empower individuals and businesses nationwide,” she said.
Since its inception in 2007, GhIPSS has played a pivotal role in Ghana’s financial landscape, managing key platforms including the national biometric e-zwich system, cheque clearing, the gh-link switching system, instant payment solutions, and GhanaPay Mobile Money.
Mrs. Arthur’s leadership is poised to enhance these platforms’ reach and efficiency, supporting Ghana’s vision of a cash-lite economy and fostering greater financial inclusion.
The Board also acknowledged the valuable contributions of outgoing CEO Mr. Archie Hesse, whose tenure laid the groundwork for this next chapter.
As GhIPSS prepares to expand its innovation agenda, stakeholders across the banking and fintech sectors will be watching closely to see how Mrs. Arthur’s expertise shapes the future of payments in Ghana.
