Colonel K.S. Appiah has officially assumed duty as the new Director of Operations at the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), following a formal handover ceremony held on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
He takes over from Colonel Dominic Buah, who previously led the operations directorate of the anti-illegal mining taskforce.
The transition was marked at a brief ceremony where Colonel Buah formally handed over operational responsibilities, ushering in new leadership for the unit responsible for coordinating field activities against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
According to officials, the change forms part of routine strategic rotations within the organisation aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening field coordination, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of anti-galamsey interventions.
Colonel Appiah’s assumption of office is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by NAIMOS to streamline enforcement activities and improve collaboration among security agencies involved in combating illegal mining across affected regions.
Authorities say the leadership change is part of broader measures to sustain momentum in the national fight against environmental degradation caused by illegal mining, while ensuring continuity in operational strategy and command structure.
The Secretariat is expected to maintain its focus on intelligence-led operations, inter-agency coordination, and field enforcement as part of its mandate to curb galamsey activities nationwide.
