The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the suspension of the indefinite strike action by its staff, allowing a full restoration of national ID registration and related services nationwide starting Monday, June 30, 2025.
The decision follows intensive negotiations involving the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), the NIA management, and key government bodies including the National Labour Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.
In an official statement released on Sunday, June 29, Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, expressed appreciation for the constructive dialogue and good faith shown by the union, while assuring that employees’ concerns will remain a priority for management going forward.
The strike had caused widespread disruption in access to essential identification services, frustrating many Ghanaians seeking to register for or renew their national IDs. The NIA acknowledged the inconvenience experienced by the public and thanked citizens for their patience during the industrial action.
“With the resolution of the dispute, all NIA offices and registration centres will reopen and resume normal operations on Monday,” the statement confirmed, urging individuals to take advantage of the resumption to obtain their ID cards promptly.
The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, high-quality identification services as part of its national mandate, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted service delivery for Ghana’s development and governance.
This development marks a significant step in restoring public confidence in the NIA’s operations and highlights the value of collaborative negotiation in resolving labor disputes affecting critical public services.
