NDC Chairman Urges Unity as He Backs Administrative Upgrades for Wa and Wa West

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on party members to maintain unity and discipline, warning that internal divisions could undermine electoral fortunes despite strong individual campaign efforts.

Speaking at Boli in the Wa Central Constituency during a thank-you tour of the Upper West Region, he stressed that cohesion remains the strongest foundation for political success.

“I beg you, no campaign can secure you victory better than unity. If you are divided, no matter your individual effort, you’ll still lose,” he said.

Mr. Nketiah commended the relative harmony within the constituency and the wider region, which he said contributed to the NDC’s performance in the 2024 general elections. He noted that while disagreements are natural in political organisations, they must be managed carefully to avoid destabilising the party.

“You can rock the boat, but don’t rock it too violently so that it creates problems for all of us,” he cautioned.

As part of his tour, the NDC Chairman also expressed appreciation to traditional leaders and party grassroots organisers for their role in securing parliamentary victories across the region, urging them to sustain and intensify their efforts ahead of future elections.

On development matters, he revealed that a presidential committee reviewing district classifications had recommended the elevation of Wa Municipality to metropolitan status, a move expected to boost resource allocation and accelerate local development.

He added that the same committee had proposed upgrading Wa West District to municipal status, which he said would improve planning capacity and enhance job creation opportunities.

At a separate engagement in Dorimon, Mr. Nketiah encouraged local leaders and residents to actively participate in governance processes, noting that inclusive involvement is essential for sustainable development.

However, the Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Area, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, raised concerns about what he described as uneven development in the district. He argued that the community has been sidelined in infrastructure distribution and called for the creation of a separate district for Dorimon.

“For us, the only solution to these inequities is for Dorimon to have a separate district. That is non-negotiable,” he stated.

The chief also highlighted stalled projects, including the Wa–Dorimon road and the Dorimon E-Block school project, urging authorities to prioritise their completion.

The tour continues to serve as both a political mobilisation effort and a platform for addressing long-standing development concerns in the Upper West Region.
