The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its call for a re-run of parliamentary elections in 62 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of compromising the integrity of the ongoing collation process.
The NDC claims the EC has been misleading the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, regarding the status of the disputed results, a situation the party says undermines public confidence in the electoral process.
Mahdi Gibril, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, told Channel One’s Umaru Sanda Amadu on Saturday, May 10, that the party has repeatedly reached out to the EC over the use of scanned pink sheets for the collation of results, which they insist is unlawful.
“We met the EC on March 13, 2025, and clearly stated that we do not trust the scanned documents they plan to use,” Gibril said. “Since then, we have sent follow-up letters on April 18 and April 30, but the EC has remained silent, only to later inform the police that they are ready to collate the results. This is a clear attempt to push through a flawed process.”
The NDC argues that only original pink sheets should be used for the collation to ensure transparency and accuracy. According to Gibril, any attempt to use scanned copies without the originals violates electoral regulations and could undermine the credibility of the final outcome.
“The EC is misinforming the IGP, especially officials like Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, who are critical to this process. They should not proceed without addressing our legitimate concerns,” Gibril added.
Efforts to finalise the collation earlier this year were disrupted after unverified pink sheets surfaced at the collation center, raising security concerns and further complicating the electoral dispute.
As of now, the EC has not publicly addressed the NDC’s latest claims, leaving the status of the constituency’s parliamentary seat in limbo.
