In a show of internal dissent, 150 branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effutu Municipality have voiced strong opposition to the nomination of Rev. Atta Mensah as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The group argues that the replacement of the party’s original nominee, Abraham Henry Arthur—who was rejected by assembly members—reflects unfair treatment and threatens party unity.
Led by Frimpong Manso, Ansaful Branch Youth Organiser, the executives insist that Henry Arthur’s contributions and commitment to the party surpass those of Atta Mensah. They have urged President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider Arthur’s nomination and allow all possible confirmation attempts before moving on.
The rejection of Abraham Henry Arthur came after he received only nine votes in favor against 17 opposing votes, amid heightened tensions within the assembly. The dissenting executives warn that proceeding with Atta Mensah’s nomination risks deepening divisions and weakening the party’s support base in Effutu.
