NDC Footsoldiers Scramble For Jobs …As Akamba Warns Appointees Over Sabotage

Former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Hamidu Akamba, has cautioned party appointees against sidelining grassroots members, warning that such actions could amount to political sabotage.

Speaking in an interview with Bobie Ansah on Accra FM, Akamba addressed growing concerns among party footsoldiers who are reportedly scrambling for jobs following the NDC’s return to power.

According to him, many loyal supporters who stood firmly with the party during its years in opposition now feel neglected, while some individuals occupying government positions have distanced themselves from the grassroots.

“When we went into opposition, some people disappeared. I stayed with the grassroots, moved from region to region, and helped bring the party back to life,” Akamba stated.

He stressed that the party’s electoral victory was built on the sacrifices of branch executives, polling station agents, and dedicated footsoldiers who worked tirelessly to keep the NDC machinery active across the country.

“We cannot struggle together in opposition and then abandon the people after victory,” he emphasised, noting that neglecting the base threatens party unity.

Akamba also recounted an incident where an international sponsor who had come to support the party was allegedly delayed and left waiting before being directed to see a deputy minister — a situation he described as worrying and potentially damaging.

“Actions like that, when people come to support the party, can send us back to opposition,” he warned.

He concluded with a strong call for accountability, insisting that unity, constant engagement, and respect for the grassroots remain essential to sustaining power.

“Those who forget the base will be publicly called out,” he declared, signaling his readiness to name and shame appointees who sideline the very supporters who fought for the party’s return to government.
