The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has mounted pressure on the government to complete the stalled Afari Military Hospital project, warning that failure to do so would reflect more poorly on the NDC than on the opposition.
Speaking during the second phase of his thank-you tour in the Ashanti Region, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said the hospital, located in Afari, was initiated under a previous NDC administration and therefore remained a major responsibility for the current government.
He made the remarks at Abuakwa after a request from Oheneba Kwame Akoto for government support to complete the facility.
According to Mr Asiedu Nketiah, leaving the project unfinished would undermine the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare in the Ashanti Region.
He assured residents that steps were being taken to fast-track the completion of the hospital, together with other ongoing projects across the country.
The NDC Chairman also revealed that government had directed District Assemblies to establish legacy funds to support the completion of development projects and accelerate rural growth.
He said delivering visible improvements in healthcare, roads and other infrastructure would be crucial if the government hopes to retain public confidence ahead of the 2028 elections.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Wisdom Osei Boamah, appealed for support to upgrade roads in the municipality, saying better road networks would improve economic activity and access to health services.
