The long-awaited parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency has ended with Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerging victorious, clinching the seat by a narrow margin of 209 votes over her closest rival from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), per provisionla results.
The rerun was necessitated by disputes and irregularities in the original December 7, 2024, general elections, which left the constituency unrepresented in the 9th Parliament for over six months. Following a court ruling that nullified parts of the initial results due to missing and unverifiable pink sheets, the Electoral Commission conducted a fresh election across all 19 polling stations in the constituency.

Total Votes Cast: 68,381

NDC (Ewurabena Aubynn) – 34,089

Despite initial fears of voter apathy, turnout reached over 56%, reflecting strong public interest in resolving the impasse and restoring parliamentary representation for the constituency.
Violence and Security Concerns
While the election itself was largely peaceful, isolated incidents of violence and intimidation were recorded. Reports emerged of a journalist, a former government minister, and a party agent being assaulted at separate polling centers. The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the interdiction of one officer seen in a viral video allegedly assaulting a reporter. The officer has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for disciplinary action.
Heightened security was deployed across the constituency, with uniformed personnel stationed at each polling center to ensure calm and prevent escalation.
Political Reactions
The NDC camp erupted in celebration as Ewurabena Aubynn was declared Member of Parliament-elect, describing the win as a “victory for democracy and accountability.” Supporters hailed her perseverance and called the narrow margin a symbol of the people’s trust in her leadership.
In a short statement, Aubynn said:
> “This is not just a win for me, but for every voter who believed that Ablekuma North deserves a voice in Parliament. I am humbled and ready to serve.”
The NPP has yet to release a formal statement, though party insiders suggest they may seek a review of some incidents reported during the polls.
Looking Ahead
The Ablekuma North rerun brings to an end a tense electoral chapter and restores full representation to the 9th Parliament. Political analysts say the razor-thin margin highlights the constituency’s competitiveness and underscores the need for both parties to engage constituents more meaningfully in future contests.
As the dust settles, all eyes now turn to Ewurabena Aubynn as she prepares to officially assume office and begin her legislative duties on behalf of the people of Ablekuma North.
