The long-awaited reconstruction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium is picking up pace, with Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, promising completion within four months. The project, which had suffered delays in recent years, is now being positioned as a major step toward reviving sports and youth engagement in the Kwahu area.
During a recent stakeholder engagement in Nkawkaw, Dr. Acheampong assured traditional leaders, youth representatives, and local authorities that the modernised stadium would not only meet FIFA standards but also serve as a catalyst for economic and social development.
“This is more than a sports facility—it’s an investment in our youth and in the future of Kwahu sports,” he said. The upgraded stadium will feature a 105m x 68m pitch with a 10-metre buffer zone, a 3,000-seater stand on the western flank, and 1,000-capacity bleachers behind each goalpost.
The project has garnered strong endorsements from key stakeholders. Chief Operating Officer of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Gyamfi Kusi Awere, who toured the site with an NSA delegation, praised the initiative, saying, “Dr. Acheampong’s determination is breathing new life into Kwahu football. The NSA is fully committed to supporting this transformation.”
Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Tamimu Halidu, echoed the sentiment, calling for unity around the project. “Let’s rise above partisanship. This stadium has the potential to uplift our youth and bring major events to our doorstep.”
With construction activities intensifying, the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium is poised to become a regional sports hub—offering not just entertainment but opportunities for youth development, talent grooming, and local economic stimulation. The renewed momentum marks a turning point in the Kwahu enclave’s ambition to reclaim its sporting heritage.
