Nkwanta South Municipality has successfully defended its title as the Overall Best Team at the 2026 Oti Regional Inter-District Sports Festival, reaffirming its growing reputation as a powerhouse in school sports.
The municipality dominated the competition in Jasikan, producing both the Overall Best Girls Athlete and Overall Best Boys Athlete, while its girls’ handball team emerged champions and the boys’ team secured second place.
The impressive performances culminated in Nkwanta South lifting the Ultimate Trophy for the second consecutive year, highlighting the municipality’s sustained investment in sports development and youth empowerment.
Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Antwi Awal, attributed the success to the dedication and discipline of the athletes, as well as the unwavering commitment of coaches, teachers, parents and other stakeholders who supported the team throughout months of preparation.
He described the achievement as a testament to the municipality’s unity, noting that students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including the Akyode, Challa, Adele and Konkomba communities, trained and competed together with a shared determination to succeed.
According to the MCE, the victory demonstrates that diversity remains a source of strength capable of driving collective success when communities work together toward a common objective.
To celebrate the accomplishment, the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly, in partnership with the area’s Member of Parliament, Mr Geoffrey Kini, has pledged a cash reward of GH¢5,000 for the athletes and officials.
The incentive is expected to motivate the victorious team while encouraging more young people across the municipality to participate in sports and develop their talents.
The latest triumph further cements Nkwanta South’s status as one of the leading municipalities in sports development within the Oti Region.
