The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a stern directive instructing all prospective parliamentary aspirants to immediately cease every form of campaign activity across all constituencies nationwide.
In an official press release dated October 11, 2026, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party revealed that its executive leadership has received numerous complaints regarding members launching early campaigns ahead of official authorization. According to the statement, these premature campaign drives violate party regulations and its Code of Conduct, creating an uneven playing field and threatening the internal discipline and unity critical to the party’s ongoing success.
Prohibited Activities
The directive explicitly orders prospective aspirants, their campaign teams, agents, and supporters to halt all campaign-related efforts with immediate effect. The party outlined several prohibited practices, including:
Billboards & Branding: Mounting posters, banners, billboards, or distributing branded materials.
Events & Rallies: Organizing public rallies, constituency tours, or meetings with polling station executives aimed at soliciting political sunpport.
Inducements: Distributing goods, monetary incentives, or other items to delegates and party members.
Media Campaigns: Running paid advertisements or campaign promotions across traditional media and social media platforms.
Furthermore, party executives across all administrative levels—from polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and constituency leadership to regional officers, national executives, and TESCON members—are strictly forbidden from promoting any prospective aspirant on social media platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram.
Disciplinary Measures and Timetable
The leadership warned that non-compliance will attract severe sanctions under the party’s formal disciplinary procedures. Conviction of deliberate disobedience may lead to disqualification or adversely impact an individual’s eligibility to contest in future parliamentary primaries.
The party reassured members that official guidelines and a detailed timetable for the parliamentary internal elections will be announced in due course. In the meantime, constituency and regional executive committees have been charged with ensuring strict compliance within their respective jurisdictions.
