NPP Ramps Up Criticism as Mahama Marks 120 Days in Office

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has intensified its critique of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration as it crosses the 120-day mark, signaling the start of what could be a prolonged political battle over the government’s performance.

Speaking on Eyewitness News with Sammi Wiafe, the NPP’s Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, outlined a series of concerns, casting doubt on Mahama’s ability to deliver on his campaign promises.

“Since he became the President, all the things he said he has done, what has been the impact? The immediate impact, what problems has he [Mahama] solved? That is where the meat is,” Ahiagbah questioned, suggesting that Ghanaians are yet to see meaningful benefits from the administration’s early actions.

Ahiagbah’s criticism focused on economic challenges, including the rising cost of living and unemployment, issues that Mahama had pledged to address during his campaign. He argued that these promises have not translated into tangible improvements for Ghanaians.

“Since he became President, the cost of living has worsened. When he was campaigning, that was one of the key things he said he was going to solve. Today, unemployment has gone up. But when they were campaigning, they said they were going to create jobs for the young people. Where are the jobs?” Ahiagbah charged.

He also dismissed Mahama’s ambitious 24-hour economy initiative as a “scam,” questioning the lack of visible progress in its rollout.

“The so-called 24-hour economy, they canvassed, and we told Ghanaians that this is a scam. Having touted the 24-hour economy, we’re not going to see anything about it in his first year in office, 2nd term, perhaps we will see, perhaps we will not see, but I can tell you that we will not see,” he said.

Ahiagbah further claimed that the ongoing power challenges, popularly known as “dumsor,” have returned, and alleged that the judiciary is under political pressure, suggesting that the overall direction of the country has worsened under Mahama’s leadership.

The NPP’s sharp critique highlights a potentially confrontational approach as the party seeks to hold the Mahama administration accountable ahead of the next election, laying the groundwork for a broader debate on governance and economic management.
