The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has recorded a total of 50 aspirants across nine national officer positions as the party moves into the next phase of its 2026 National Officers Elections.
According to the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), the purchase and collection of nomination forms officially closed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after what it described as a successful and peaceful nomination period.
The National Chairperson position has attracted five aspirants, including Paul Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe and Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
The National Vice Chairperson race has recorded the highest number of aspirants, with 13 candidates purchasing forms. They include Henry Nana Boakye, Kojo Fosu Boadu, Mustapha Abdul Hameed, Samuel Pyne, Richard Ahiagba, Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, George Kwabena Abankwah Yeeboah, Horma Miezah, Richard Oti Aboagye, Bright Esselfie Kumi and Nana Akomea.
Four aspirants have expressed interest in the General Secretary position, namely Justin Kodua Frimpong, Eugene Boakye Antwi, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena.
The National Treasurer position has also attracted four aspirants, while eight candidates have picked forms to contest the National Organiser position.
For the National Women Organiser position, three aspirants have purchased forms, including Mavis Hawa Koomson, Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada and Safia Mohammed.
Six candidates are seeking the National Youth Organiser position, while five have picked forms for the National Nasara Organiser race. The National Communications Director position has recorded two aspirants.
### Filing Opens Sunday
The NOEC stressed that purchasing or collecting a nomination form does not automatically make an aspirant a valid nominee or candidate.
It explained that aspirants must properly file their completed forms together with all required supporting documents within the prescribed period before they can be recognised as nominees, subject to vetting and other processes under the party’s constitution and election regulations.
The filing of completed nomination forms will begin on Sunday, August 23, and end on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The committee said arrangements have been made for the orderly receipt, registration and secure custody of the nominations.
### Vetting Scheduled for August 31
After the filing period, the nominees will undergo vetting from Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer aspirants will be vetted on August 31, followed by the National Vice Chairperson aspirants on September 1.
The National Organiser and National Youth Organiser aspirants will be vetted on September 2, while the National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser aspirants will undergo vetting on September 3.
### Balloting Date Yet to Be Fixed
The NOEC has also explained why it has not yet announced a date for the national elections.
According to the committee, the decision is deliberate, as it wants the filing, vetting and any appeals arising from the vetting process to be completed before fixing a final date for balloting.
The committee said determining the final list of candidates before announcing the voting date would help prevent possible postponements or suspensions resulting from unresolved appeals over the qualification of aspirants.
A firm date for balloting will therefore be communicated after the field of candidates has been sufficiently settled. The NOEC has assured aspirants that adequate notice will be given regarding the date, venue, time and procedure for voting.
The committee has meanwhile appealed to all aspirants and their supporters to promote unity, mutual respect and confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes as the elections progress.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to administering the elections fairly, transparently and impartially, in accordance with the NPP’s constitution and applicable election regulations.
