The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally prohibited its members and aspiring candidates from engaging in early campaign activities ahead of the party’s internal elections.
In a directive issued on Wednesday, May 14, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party warned against premature efforts to secure support for party positions, stressing that such actions risk undermining party unity and the credibility of its internal democratic processes.
The statement emphasized that members should refrain from approaching party executives or leveraging party structures for early endorsements, as the official nomination period has yet to be announced.
“Any premature engagement with party structures or grassroots executives before the official opening of nominations compromises the integrity of our processes and risks disrupting the cohesion we have worked so hard to build,” the statement read.
The NPP leadership also reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair, and inclusive nomination process, assuring members that detailed guidelines would be released once the timeline for internal elections is finalized.
“The party remains committed to due process and transparency in all its electoral activities. We urge all members to respect this directive as we prepare for a robust and united campaign towards victory in the 2028 general elections,” the statement added.
Party officials called on supporters to focus their energies on ongoing party-building efforts and to avoid actions that could create unnecessary divisions ahead of the crucial electoral cycle.
