A prominent member of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Bono Region has openly praised President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as bold infrastructure development and economic recovery efforts.
Mr Frank Adjapong, popularly known as “Interbegamo,” said he now admires President Mahama’s leadership despite previously campaigning strongly against him during the 2016 elections.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Mr Adjapong described the government’s ongoing “Big Push” road infrastructure programme as a major turning point for national development.
“In 2016, I campaigned heavily against President Mahama, but I did not know he was genuinely committed to carrying out this level of infrastructure development,” he said.
He noted that he has remained a loyal member of the NPP and has contested several regional executive positions within the party since 2008, but believes national development should be acknowledged regardless of political affiliation.
Mr Adjapong also commended the government for stabilising the economy and reducing inflation to single digits, describing it as one of the administration’s key achievements.
He highlighted initiatives such as the “Big Push” infrastructure programme and the “Nkoko Nketenkete” agricultural initiative as policies capable of improving Ghana’s economic future.
According to him, better roads and government interventions could help attract investment and strengthen investor confidence.
He urged contractors working under the Big Push programme to deliver quality projects and advised beneficiaries of the poultry initiative to make effective use of the support provided.
Despite his praise, Mr Adjapong said he remains concerned about the high cost of living, arguing that many traders have failed to reduce prices even as economic indicators improve.
He also called on government to create more employment opportunities to address rising youth unemployment.
He encouraged President Mahama to remain focused on his development agenda despite criticism from opponents.
