The Ashanti Regional Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned the National Security, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Ghana Police Service to investigate allegations that the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, planned an attack on Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah and his church.
The Youth Wing is demanding that the Founder and Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry substantiate the allegation with evidence, arguing that the claim amounts to a serious accusation of criminal conspiracy and violence against a sitting Member of Parliament.
The petition follows public comments by Prophet Owusu Bempah in which he allegedly accused Dr Ayew Afriye of seeking to mobilise members of the NPP Nasara Wing to attack him and his church.
The Ashanti Regional NPP Youth Wing, which identifies Dr Ayew Afriye as its Patron, has strongly rejected the allegation, describing it as “wicked, false and entirely without foundation.”
According to the group, Dr Ayew Afriye has never instructed, directed or encouraged members of the NPP Youth Wing, the Nasara Wing or any other individuals to attack the prophet, his church or its members.
It therefore wants the security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and determine whether there is any evidence to support the claim.
The group is also urging the agencies to invite Prophet Owusu Bempah to provide evidence of the alleged plot, stressing that accusations of criminal conduct against a public figure should not be made without supporting facts.
It warned that if the allegation is found to be false and deliberately made to cause fear and panic, incite public hostility or damage the MP’s reputation, the appropriate legal measures should be considered.
The Youth Wing further expressed concern about the potential security implications of the allegation, saying public accusations of an intended attack could expose Dr Ayew Afriye to hostility, threats or possible acts of reprisal.
It described the MP as an “affable, disciplined and peace-loving leader” who has consistently exercised restraint even in situations involving provocation.
While insisting that its petition should not be interpreted as an attack on Prophet Owusu Bempah or his ministry, the group said its primary concern was to protect the safety, reputation and dignity of its Patron.
The NPP Youth Wing also accused the prophet of pursuing what it described as a personal agenda against the party’s flagbearer, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and the NPP under the cover of spiritual prophecy.
It maintained that the matter should now be subjected to proper investigation rather than public speculation, stressing that any allegation of criminal conduct must either be supported by evidence or withdrawn.
