Ghanaians seeking identity registration services will have to wait as the National Identification Authority (NIA) temporarily shuts down operations across all district offices to implement critical system upgrades.
The interruption, which affects services linked to the Ghana Card, is part of a broader effort to enhance data security and improve system performance. Officials say the upgrade is being handled by the Authority’s Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) team, focusing on strengthening safeguards within the national identification database.
While the disruption may inconvenience applicants and those seeking related services, the NIA insists the exercise is necessary to protect sensitive personal data and ensure long-term efficiency of its operations.
The Authority has set May 10, 2026, as the expected date for the full restoration of services nationwide, assuring the public that operations will resume immediately after the upgrade is completed.
In a statement signed by Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, the NIA apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for patience, emphasising that the improvements will ultimately deliver a more secure and reliable identification system for all residents.
