Tain Member of Parliament, Adama Sulemana, has called for an urgent investigation into the alleged betting tax deductions imposed under the previous administration, following conflicting statements about its legitimacy.
The controversy gained traction after former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams denied that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government ever enacted laws to implement the tax. His remarks have raised questions about who authorized the deductions and how the collected funds have been managed.
In an interview with CTV’s Gordon Desmond Sackitey, Adama Sulemana stressed the need for transparency, urging the current government to launch a thorough probe.
“The public deserves to know the truth about these deductions. If the tax was never officially implemented, then who sanctioned it? Where did the money go?” he questioned.
He emphasized that ensuring accountability in public financial management is crucial, and any irregularities surrounding the betting tax must be addressed to restore public trust.
