The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ebi Bright, has stressed that empowering women through education, leadership opportunities and economic inclusion is vital for Ghana’s long-term development.
Speaking during activities to commemorate International Women’s Day, Ms Bright said investing in women was a strategic move that produced broad social and economic benefits for the country.
The event was held under the theme “Give to Gain,” which she said emphasised the importance of creating opportunities that allow women and girls to realise their potential.
According to Ms Bright, when women are supported to succeed, the positive impact extends beyond individuals to families, communities and the nation as a whole.
“When women are given the opportunity to rise, families rise, communities rise and nations also rise,” she said.
She explained that providing women with access to quality education and economic resources was essential to building a resilient and prosperous society.
Ms Bright also encouraged stakeholders to support initiatives that help young girls pursue their ambitions and develop the confidence to take up leadership roles.
“When we give young girls the chance to dream, we give innovation; when we give women the opportunity to lead, we give progress,” she noted.
Reflecting on her position as the first female Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Ms Bright said her appointment demonstrated the value of trusting women with leadership responsibilities.
She indicated that women leaders often use their positions to uplift their communities and inspire the next generation.
“As the first female mayor of Tema, I represent what this theme truly means. When women are trusted with leadership, we do not only rise; we lift communities with us,” she said.
Ms Bright therefore called on policymakers, institutions and individuals to move beyond rhetoric and take practical steps to support women and girls across the country.
She urged collective action to build a society where every woman had equal respect, protection and opportunities to succeed.
“When we give to women, Ghana gains,” she added.
